The US government conducted a study into the extensive damage on Washington DC, its federal buildings, people’s health and surrounding areas if a nuclear bomb was detonated in the city centre, says the Daily Mail.
The question posed in the headline becomes increasingly relevant as the days, hours and weeks go by without a nuclear strike launched at Washington by North Korea.
“The study simulated a nuclear strike on 16th and K streets, which is the heart of the city and just a couple of blocks from the White House, ” it says.
Buildings including the White House, the Capitol, Treasury Department, Old Executive Office Building and many along the National Mall would be instantly destroyed.
So Washington would be devastated.
But the story doesn’t say what would happen to the rest of the US, or indeed, parts North, South East and West.
Stay tuned, but put your fingers in your ears and cover your eyes 😉
