This most recent spill has drawn attention back to Exxon Mobil’s “rocky record regarding pipeline safety in a state that has tens of thousands of miles of pipeline, including around 3,450 miles of pipeline transporting crude oi”, says inhabitat
The rupture leaked as many as 1,000 barrels of crude oil into the Yellowstone River in Montana and has been shut down, the company said.
It didn’t have an estimate for the restarting of the pipeline, which was carrying Canadian Wabasca Heavy crude at the time of the leak, says Reuters, adding:
“The spill comes as environmentalists are pressing the State Department to reject plan to build the 800,000 bpd Keystipeline, which would carry oil from Canada’s oil sands to the Gulf Coast.
The leak forced the evacuation of more than 20 homes.
