Everyone everywhere is now thoroughly familiar with, and sick of, the unbelievable tale in which Steve Harper’s ex- chief of staff, Nigel Wright, made a present of $90,000 to senator Mike Duffy to cover spurious housing expenses Duffy had bilked Canadian taxpayers out of.
Wright claims he gave Duffy the $90 K as a ‘gift’ to an old friend.
No one believes the tale anymore than they believe Harper knew nothing about it.
Now there’s another question: how much did it cost Canadians for the farewell gift Harper gave Wright to encourage his resignation?
According to iPolitics, “his severance pay for leaving will be around $16,000,” says News 1130 going on:
“Harper won’t confirm the amount, but said Wright will only receive what is required under law – no more, no less.”
Wright worked for the Harper for two years,” says the story, adding “his salary was never made public.”
And they used to call Mulroney Lyin’ Brian 😉
