‘Offshore Leaks’ investigation team earns honorary doctorate

Honest, fair and accurate reporting is still alive, Fox News notwithstanding

Proof came came when the International Consortium of Journalists released its/their Investigative report on offshore tax havens.

It/they have now been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Liège in Belgium.

Among those previously awarded honorary degrees by the university are Nelson Mandela, Vaclav Havel and Salman Rushdie. A smaller number of organizations, including Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) have also received its honorary doctorate.

Similarly recognized for their contributions to freedom of expression and open access to knowledge included Peter Kroll, a cartoonist with Le Soir, Jean Plantureux (‘Plantu’) from Le Monde, and Tunisian cartoonist Nadia Khiari, along with Kazakh journalist Lukpan Akhmediarov. and global open access advocate Stevan Harnad, a professor of cognitive science at the University of Quebec.

IMHO the university should also hand out honorary doctorates to notable whistleblowers such as Manning and Snowden, as well as Nobel peace prizes.

Just saying …
