TPP, anyone ??

tpp1The corporate entertainment cartels  never give up,

Why bother to woo  consumers when you can reliably sue them into buying what you want?

They want to enslave you to a  far greater extent than they already have.

With their government approved six strikes and you’re out legislation safely locked up, the current entertainment cartel ploy is theTrans Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership, a secretive,  multinational trade deal that threatens to spread restrictive intellectual property laws around the globe.

And IP laws  are the favoured hooks  with which to hang those pesky people who just won’t toe the corporate line.

Harper’s trade representatives are hastily negotiating a top secret global pact …

He’s  trying to convince us the 12-country Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is about getting a better deal for Canadians. But the truth is the pact could end up being one of the biggest corporate power grabs in a generation.

Harper is refusing to make the deal public. Instead, he’s giving 600 corporate lobbyists the privilege. But if people knew what was in this secretive deal, they’d never agree to it. Right now, there are massive internal divisions in the talks that could derail the talks for good.

Experts say the TPP negotiations are being conducted with a level of secrecy never witnessed before in any previous trade agreement.

The 29-chapter megapact covers everything from restricting internet freedoms to weakening environmental protections and making it illegal for farmers to save seeds.

But that’s not the worst of it.

One of the key parts of the deal is a system that will allow the world’s biggest companies to overturn our democratically decided laws in secret and unaccountable courts outside the justice system.

Already, corporations are playing Russian roulette with our laws.

Infinito Gold, a Canadian mining giant, is threatening a $1 billion lawsuit against Costa Rica for rejecting a toxic, open-pit gold mine after massive protests from local citizens.

And U.S. pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly is suing Canada for half a billion dollars for allowing other companies to make generic affordable versions of two of its drugs after their patents had expired.

If the TPP goes ahead … Canada will be at risk every time a current or future government tries to do right by us, and each time profit-seeking corporation with a grudge comes looking it will be taxpaying Canadians that foot the bill.

But you can do something about it.

We know the TPP talks are in danger Sum of Us goes on, adding:

Obama just went to Asia to try and save the stalled talks, and our allies at Open Media just launched a huge campaign at the U.S. Embassy in Washington D.C. This is the perfect moment to make the Harper government take a stand on the TPP. Together, our community voted to make stopping unfair global trade deals one of our top priorities for 2014. And already, over 60,000 SumOfUs members across Canada have called on Harper to reject the TPP. We have a real opportunity to come together and show Harper we’re not going to go down without a fight.

Using international law courts  to blackmail you  into becoming compliant consumers of their  shoddy product (s) isn’t sufficient.
