Pay up! — German chancellor Merkel tells Google

Google  has been getting away it for Lo! These many years. Ever since, In fact, former employee Paul Buchheit (FriendFeed and developer of Gmail) first uttered those immortal words do no evil  on Google’s behalf.

IMHO it’s been doing progressive evil virtually  from the day it adopted the axiom,  particularly when it comes to privacy invasion and copyright violation,  if such a thing  actually exists.

Enter German chancellor Angela Merkel. Her government wants Google and  “other aggregators to pay for reproducing content from news websites,”  says Der Spiegel, going on her cabinet on Wednesday “agreed on a draft law that would impose a fee even for tiny snippets of text.”
