Giant American advertising company Google is threatening to exclude French media sites from its search results if France sticks with her plans to make search engines pay for content,
According to the BBC, in a letter sent to “several ministerial offices”, Google said such a law “would threaten its very existence”.
French newspaper publishers have been pushing for the law, claiming it’s unfair that Google gets advertising payments from searches for news, and culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti likes the idea.
XShe believes parliamentary commission it’s “a tool that it seems important to me to develop,” says the Beeb.
Google France, though, reckons the plan “would be harmful to the internet, internet users and news websites that benefit from substantial traffic” that comes via Google’s search engine.
