Mark Cahill’s new hand

hand51-year-old Mark Cahill has become the first person in Britain to have a full hand transplant.

A donor was found on Boxing Day, says the Guardian, going on:

“Doctors amputated Mark Cahill’s functionless hand and sewed on the donor’s replacement during an eight-hour operation at Leeds General Infirmary.

If all continues to go well, Cahill is expected to gain feeling and movement , the story adds.

It doesn’t say what made Marks’ new hand suitable for the operation.

“The hospital said Mr Cahill lost the use of his right hand due to severe gout,” says the Huddersfield Examiner.
