Content and information need to be free, not free as in free beer, but as in free as a bird.
That’s been said many times in many places by many people, but it’s never been truer especially in this day and age as governments turn into corporations run by vested interests answering not to the people who labor under the delusion that they elected them, but by multinational conglomerates run by sociopaths and psychopaths who answer only to their boards and their investors.
Laurier Had the right idea — until George W Harper blew it.
But that’s okay because artists, including, musicians and writers, blogger/journalists, are slowly but surely carving out new online spaces for themselves where they, and not some controlling interest, are responsible for their work.
News and information need to be open source, instead of the exclusive property of a few companies and individuals. They need to be freely shared and distributed as they develop and open up.
But your freedom of speech can vanish in the night; if you let them, they’ll steal it away from you.
And you know who ‘they’ are.
Increasingly, in this newly digital world, the means to have open source and open speech are gaining hold, to the alarm and discussed of the powers that used to be.
With in the availability of content management and publishing systems such as WordPress and paper.li, anyone, anywhere can be his or her own publisher, just so long as they have an Internet connection.
The word is spreading …
Content management …
… is exactly what it seems.
A way to manage, and organize, content whatever it may be
The Wikipedia sums it up like this >>>
A web content management system (WCMS or Web CMS) is used to manage and control a large, dynamic collection of Web material (HTML documents and their associated images).
A CMS facilitates content creation, content control, editing, and many essential Web maintenance functions.
On- and offline protests by Anon(s) aren’t built around a desire to do damage. They’re manifestations of anger by people who historically have had no means of making themselves heard, but who’ve now found in the net an instrument to make their concerns and needs known.
The downfall of the government in Tunisia was In my humble opinion we doing in the IMAXthe most dramatic demonstration of what can happen when people become angry enough, and when they have, for the first time, a means of expressing their anger in a way that can’t be ignored.
Will governments, and the police agencies which serve them, be able halt this swelling tide? Is it temporary?
The latter, because The Powers That Used To Be have lost their ability to tightly control the spread of news and information.
And that means they can no longer control us.
Uncovering secrets, revealing untruths
It started the first time someone posted a message to someone else online.
S/he did an end-run around the corporate media, completely bypassing the accepted channels of communication.
And that changed everything.
No longer can our duplicitous politicians and captains of industry high behind the laws they paid good money for to protect themselves. For the first time in history, the people have a voice louder — much louder — than the moribund corporate print and electronic media.
It’s called the internet.
Hollywood or the major record labels who until the digital 21st century had complete and total control of every major news and information outlet, print and electronic, locked in. We quite literally saw and heard only what they wanted us to see and hear.
To me, P2Pmeans a massively growing network of people freely communicating with other people every second of every minute of every hour of every day, instantly disseminating unspun, unfettered information, uncovering secrets, revealing untruths.
And it’s spelling the inexorable death of corporate and political media control.
The birth of new dawn where information is no longer owned by someone.
A new time.
A new place.
P2P means People 2 People power. Now we have a voice which is becoming increasingly unified (read loud).
For the first time in history, politicians (and others) have to answer directly to the people who elected them, a reality that’s creating shock-waves which are rocking the Powers that Used To Be to their cores
It used to be that government or corporate ‘leaders’ could hatch a scheme knowing it’d be a done deal before the public had time to react. But time is no longer on their side. Almost immediately after the latest infamy is announced, the Net is buzzing with the news and minutes later …
And “One way or another, p2p technologies will be the primary backbone for communications in this century,” I said in a discussion with Slyck way back.
And in another post, I reiterated something that became a theme on p2pnet:
Remember this. The people you’re trying to step on, we’re everyone you depend on.
We’re the people who do your laundry and cook your food and serve your dinner.
We make your bed.
We guard you while you’re asleep.
We drive the ambulances.
We direct your call
We are cooks and taxi drivers and we know everything about you.
We process your insurance claims and credit card charges.
We control every part of your life.
The italicized words above were written by Chuck Palahniuk in his book, Fight Club where they’re spoken by its anti-hero, Tyler Durden.
“The executives, politicians and ‘creators’ should have that in neon lights, hanging on the walls in their offices because
The net and P2P People Power are the Great Equalisers and now, for the first time, we can make sure our natural rights are respected.
